Meet Dr. McNaught
Douglas McNaught, DDS
"I love the challenges of dentistry, and I am dedicated to my best. Helping people, encouraging prevention, and being able to instill good oral health habits is what makes my profession so rewarding. We have one of the best dental teams possible, and it’s extremely rewarding and gratifying to work with so many outstanding professionals. " - Dr. McNaught
Long Lake Dental opened its doors over 50 years ago when Dr. John Sagehorn began practicing in this area. I began working with Dr. Sagehorn over 25 years ago, and in 1998 was honored to take over the practice and continue providing the outstanding dental and patient care that he was known for. Many of our staff have been with us for almost 20 years. We all enjoy working together, and we know that you and your family will always enjoy visiting our practice. I am proud to welcome you to Long Lake Dental.
Education and Continuing Education
- Attended the University of Montana in Missoula
- Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene – Eastern Washington University
- Doctor of Dental Surgery degree – University of Minnesota in Minneapolis
While I completed my formal education many years ago, I actively pursue continuing education opportunities as a way to stay up-to-date with the latest trends in dentistry. I have memberships with the Southwest Dental Implant Study Club, the Minnetonka Study Club, and have been a 25-year member of the Minneapolis District Dental Society, the Minnesota Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.
Outside of the Practice
I am originally from Montana, where my parents still live in Great Falls. In 1981, I chose to make Minnesota my permanent home. Today I live in Cottagewood along Lake Minnetonka. My lovely wife, Kate, and I have three adult children. Our oldest son is a recent graduate of Northwestern Graduate School with a master’s degree is Sports Marketing. Our second daughter is a happily engaged bride-to-be, and works in research and development for General Mills. Our youngest daughter, a recent Marquette University graduate, is currently seeking further education in advertising. My wife and I are extremely proud of our children.
Kate has worked with me at Long Lake Dental for over 15 years now, and she takes care of the bookkeeping, accounts payable, and partners with me in making major office decisions. She is not only a wonderful wife, but also an exceptional business partner. I enjoy spending my days with her at the practice and at home.
Living in the Lake Minnetonka area is wonderful! When I’m not at the practice, I enjoy participating in a variety of lake activities, from sailing and fishing in the summer, to skiing and ice fishing in the winter. I am the past commodore of the Minnetonka Yacht Club, and enjoy sailing our 38 foot “A” racing scow. When I’m not sailing, you can often find me fishing for muskies. I am also a huge garage sale shopper, and have found many great treasures including collectible antiques, as well as old nautical, hunting, and fishing equipment.
